WIRELESS CHARGING IN THE NEWS
The ultimate form of dark-lit factories is a workshop without lights and personnel on duty, with AGVs and AMRs operating 24/7 without interruption. However, many enterprises that promote automation have found that while all the tasks such as handling, storage, and loading/unloading are done by robots, the charging process still relies on "human intervention" - AGVs with low battery levels queue up to return to the charging room, and the plugs need to be manually connected, and night-time faults require personnel to enter the factory for reset. The dark-lit factories seem automated, but when the charging stops, the entire production line comes to a halt.
The root cause of the problem lies in the fundamental conflict between the traditional charging mode and the logic of unmanned operation. Contact-based charging requires AGVs to return to a centralized charging area, making it impossible to replenish energy during the task gap. Queuing, waiting, and returning to the charging area consume a lot of effective working time; metal plugs and plates wear and oxidize under dusty and oily conditions, leading to frequent failures, and each time, manual intervention is required. Charging has become the "last mile" of the dark-lit factories.
Opportunity charging (Opportunity Charging) is the answer to this bottleneck. It does not pursue "recharge and then move on", but utilizes every task gap of the AGV, such as loading/unloading, waiting, and handling, to recharge automatically and nearby - the robot stops where it is, and it charges there; it charges for as long as it stops, integrating the battery life into the production rhythm instead of interrupting it.
The WIRELESSPT AGV wireless charging system turns opportunity charging from a concept into a practical industrial product. Taking the 1200W-48V-20A wireless charger as an example, the product supports three startup methods: 485, CAN controlled startup, and proximity charging: AGVs arrive at the workstation and automatically wake up for charging without any manual operation; 2.4GHz radio real-time communication, voltage, current, temperature, and fault codes are uploaded throughout the process, and the scheduling system can always monitor the charging status of each vehicle; the receiver communication interface supports CAN or 485, and can seamlessly connect with WMS and MES scheduling platforms to achieve a complete closed loop of "low battery autonomous planning, nearby charging at the workstation, and automatic departure when fully charged".
From the parameter perspective, the value of opportunity charging lies in its fault tolerance and durability: with a full-load vertical working distance of 0–50mm, long-axis horizontal offset of ±20mm, and short-axis ±10mm, the AGV does not need millimeter-level precise alignment for parking, and the navigation error does not affect the charging startup; the maximum transmission efficiency is ≥87%, constant current-constant voltage charging management, over-temperature protection at 80±2℃, over-current and over-voltage multiple protections; the transmitter, receiver, and pre-stage power supply have protection grades of IP67, working temperature from -40℃ to +60℃, stable operation in dusty, oily, and humid workshops.
More importantly, it is maintenance-free. Wireless charging has no plugs, plates, or cables, and there are no issues of electrode wear, oxidation, or sparking, so there is no need for "manual replacement or reset" during operation. AGVs can recharge during fragmented time, without needing to return to the charging area, and the equipment's operation rate is significantly improved; combined with the WIRELESSPT 180W–6000W full-power product matrix, from hidden AGVs to heavy-duty forklifts, there is a matching power level for each.
The dark-lit factories do not aim for "fully charged machines", but for an always-online system. Opportunity charging enables AGVs to complete self-replenishment in the production gaps - without occupying space, without consuming time, and without requiring human intervention, becoming the true "invisible charging" in the dark-lit factories. WIRELESSPT continues to deeply focus on industrial wireless charging, ensuring that every unmanned project is no longer "interrupted by human intervention" at the charging stage.
